Standard 9: Leadership and Collaboration
-The teacher is a leader who engages collaboratively with learners, families, colleagues, and community members to build a shared vision and supportive professional culture focused on student growth and success.
I participate in weekly Common Formative Assessments (CFAs) for Math Interventions with my grade level team. We collaborate to create a quiz that tests the information students should know. We use concepts that are new, some that are from earlier in the year, and concepts that may be difficult for some of our students. After administering the quiz, we gather as a team to sort students into the areas that they need support in. Students who have a firm understanding of all concepts go to an enrichment group where they get to play games or have fun with some of the concepts we tested. The other students are classified by concept, and each teacher chooses a concept to reteach. We take information from our CFAs to help determine which teacher would be best suited for a concept based on how their students performed in that area. Then, at the end of the week, we have Math rotations and divide the students based on their performance on the CFAs. They go to classroom with the support for the concept they need the most help on.
I also use district benchmark testing to guide small groups and interventions in Reading and Math as well. The data from the benchmark test is consolidated and generated into a report highlighting which Common Core Standards students are excelling at, average in, or struggling with. The scores are color coded for easy reference. Excelling is green, average is yellow, and struggling is red. We also gather growth information to make sure students who are excelling already still make progress in concepts.
